Looking Ahead: Cathedral High’s AVID Explores Texas Colleges

By: Matthew Rivera, Managing Editor

From February 22 to February 28, the AVID students at Cathedral High School visited colleges to explore their future options. They visited many colleges, including UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio), the University of the Incarnate Word, and Texas A&M. AVID students Journey Carrasco and Santiago Moreno thought it was a great trip and a learning experience to see all these college campuses in person.

To start their visit, students would be introduced by their university tour guides, who would walk them around the campus, showing important university landmarks, academic buildings, dorm rooms, libraries, and different gathering places for students during free time. Many questions were asked and encouraged during the trip, questions about majors, scholarships, and campus life, which all helped the students to understand what they might want in their future college compared to what they will get.

During the trip, students were also allowed to stop by to buy merchandise from the colleges. Some students bought shirts, stickers, and many other souvenirs from the colleges, giving them something for the students to remember their field trip to these potential colleges.

Not only were they able to go to these colleges, but they were still able to proudly show their faith, too. When they visited the campus, the students and teachers would go to the Newman Center and pray the rosary together, giving them time to reflect and pray on what God has in store for them and their academic future.

In conclusion, the trip was very educational, faithful, and meaningful for Cathedral’s AVID students. It was a great way to see what awaits them in the next few years, and it was a great way to gain an idea of the community and faith of the colleges that they will be attending after graduation.
