This fall, Loretto’s theater department comes alive with a vibrant production of Jane Austen’s classic play, Emma. Directed by Ms. Cortez alongside the talented senior class, the show brings charm, humor, and memorable drama to the stage. The plot centers on Emma Woodhouse, a wealthy, clever, and headstrong 20-year-old who believes she has a natural gift for matchmaking. After successfully pairing off her former governess, Emma sets her sights on orchestrating love lives across her neighborhood. Her well-meaning schemes soon spark a web of misunderstandings and lighthearted chaos throughout her community.
The curtain call for Emma in Lorettos Little Theatre.
As Emma dives into her new matchmaking projects, her meddling creates unexpected drama for everyone involved. She tries to pair up her sweet friend Harriet Smith with the arrogant local vicar Mr. Elton and the charming yet secretive Frank Churchill. However, her romantic plans encounter serious pushback from her worry-prone father and her sharp-witted family friend, Mr. Knightley. Watching these classic characters interact onstage gives audiences a front-row seat to Austen's witty take on love and friendship. The cast puts immense heart into every scene, capturing both the humor and growth of each character.
The cast did a fantastic job bringing this story to life, especially the main characters: Harriet Smith, played by Rory Martinez; Emma, played by Anne Marie Franco; Mr. Knightley, played by Sebastian, a freshman here at Cathedral; and many others. Also, a special shout-out to the crew who helped put this play together; without them, it wouldn’t have happened. Lastly, we want to congratulate Ms. Cortez for leading all these high schoolers in putting on such an amazing show for everyone.
